Geologic Features
The most famous mountain range is the Phoenix Range, located right in central Phoenix. Within this mountain complex, you can stop and enjoy the epic view and take in the mountain air at the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. There is also a trail that visitors can travel along dedicated to Charles M. Christiansen, a who worked to preserve these magnificent mountains. Phoenix is located on the Salt River Valley and this because of the great Salt River in the southern part of Phoenix. Less than an hour away from Phoenix, there is the gorgeous Gila River. The Gila River is very important to us in Phoenix, as it is the major waterway for us, here in Arizona. Closest Fault/Plate Boundary About 1 hour and 45 minutes away is the Big Chino Fault, slightly north of Prescott, Arizona. This fault contains a large history of gigantic earthquakes, including the one in 1976 which is said to be the largest earthquake in Arizona in the last 50 years. Phoenix is not located near any plate boundaries but the closest boundary would be the San Andrea's Fault in which the Pacific and North American plates for a transforming boundary. Additional Information
Phoenix is located in what Arizonians call "The Valley of the Sun," which is a flat, desert terrain that is bordered by lakes and mountains. |
